The Powerwatch Handbook

Simple ways to Make You and Your Family Safer

by Alasdair & Jean Philips

Piatkus Books  £10.99

ISBN 0 7499 2686 4

Every so often a book that is likely to become a reference bible in its field is published. The Powerwatch Handbook is one of those exceptional books. Alasdair Philips is a scientist who has dedicated his career to investigating the detrimental health consequences of EMFs and microwave radiation.  The medical profession is slow to recognise connections between ‘electro smog’ and our well being.  Alasdair’s continuous research over twenty years has extended beyond the limitations of current official opinions.

With the growth of wireless communications systems and  electronic devices  used in normal every day living,  excessive exposure to EMF sources becomes increasingly prevalent.  As well as his convincing scientific evidence of  the harmful effects of these fields drawn from his own and other  respected  research,  Alasdair has taken into account the anecdotal  health experiences  of  many different people,  ranging  from young children through  to high-level  business men,  all of whom have seemingly been affected by various forms of EM and radio frequency emissions

This handbook helps you to spot sources of EMFs, including ones from electronic gadgets and installations at home,  in offices, schools, hospitals and other public places,  as well as those emitted from different forms of transport, communication systems and masts.  It explains ways to minimise your exposure to them and some really good self-help solutions are clearly set out.  There is a very interesting section about the way in which water reacts to EMFs and how to neutralise that interaction.

The book sets out sensible guidelines to help you make both your home and work environment a  safer, low EMF zone by making practical adjustments to  electrical appliances,  wiring,  phones and other equipment.   It even covers how to help yourself if you become electrosensitive.   Finding out this valuable information is made so much easier by the Do and Don’t sections that accompany several chapters.

Despite the extensive and intensive volume of information contained in this book, once familiar with its style of presentation it is really easy to read.   It will enable practitioners to give a lot more well-informed advice to their patients and clients, so it would make an excellent  addition to your resource  library.

Alasdair Philips is qualified in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.  He has acquired considerable knowledge of EMF bio-effects, and is one of the UK’s leading 'alternative' authorities on the subject.   Powerwatch is an independent organisation promoting policies for a safer environment, with a central role in the UK Electromagnetic Field and Microwave Radiation health debate.    It is a forum for a small group of expert scientists and engineers who are concerned about the consequences of  the irradiated 'blue world' we are creating.  It works closely with other like-minded groups and with decision-makers in business and government.

Jean Philips is involved in researching alongside Alasdair and has co-written the book jointly with him.  The authors are donating their royalties  from the sale of this book  to the charity  Children with Leukemia .   You can find more information  on www.powerwatch.org.uk
