A Diploma Course in Massage - City & Guilds

What is the aim of the Massage course?

Massage is probably the oldest of all therapies and has been used throughout all ages by all cultures. It is a holistic form of treatment having a profound effect on the mind, body and emotions. During this 8 Module course you will cover how massage aids digestion, stimulates the lymphatic system and improves circulation, can help improve muscles and skin tone and, combined with the psychological benefits, quickly brings about a feeling of overall well-being.
We have different levels of massage qualifications to suit all needs from interest only to fully accredited diplomas with City & Guilds. See the Kevala Prospectus for more details.

What does the course cover?

The course comprises 8 modules and covers:-

• Full A,P & P
• History of massage
• Massage and stress
• Massage techniques
• Contraindications & Cautions
• First aid
• Consultation procedures
• The Therapeutic Relationship
• Setting up business
• Final Examination: To be completed on finishing the course modules.
• Case studies: There are 30 case studies required to support the Diploma courses which must be submitted with the final examination paper. There are 10 case studies if you are doing the C&G certificate.
• Guided Learning hours - Guided learning hours for the course are 360 hours. This includes 20 hours of reflective practice if you are completing the full diploma.
• Tutorials – should you wish to gain the C&G accredited course, you will need to attend 5 two-day tutorials.

Guided Learning Hours

Guided learning hours for the course are 360 hours. This includes 20 hours of reflective practice if you are completing the full Diploma. During the course you will need to complete a number of case studies. 30 case studies must be completed for the City & Guilds/Kevala Diploma and 10 case studies for City &Guild Certificate.

Examinations

If students want to take the City & Guilds (C&G) examinations then the costs are as follows:
a. Exam fees for the certificate in Massage plus A,P &P = £50.00
b. Exam fees for the diploma in Massage plus A,P&P = £71.00
(Please note that these figures may change from time to time outside of our control but we will endeavour to keep students informed of any annual increase in charges).

Exam fees are to be paid to the Kevala centre once you are ready to take your final examination. Dates will be posted in advance. The cost of the Kevala exam is included in the course fee, if you wish to receive the Kevala diploma.

What qualification does this course give?

Having passed the final examination the student will receive a diploma - City and Guilds Diploma in Massage if you have chosen this option or Complementary Health Education Diploma in Massage for Kevala option (You will also be entitled to use the letters C.H.Ed Dip Mass). If you take the City & Guilds final examination, and join the AAPA, you will also be able to use MAAPA after your name.

Associations and membership

Having successfully completed the course with tutorials the student will have gained sufficient skills to practice as a massage therapist and be entitled to apply for membership of the Aromatherapy & Allied Practitioners Association (AAPA), itself a member of the General Council for Massage Therapists.

What support is available?

Full support is available from your own personal tutor. In addition the practical tutorials are held on various weekends throughout the year either at the Centre or in Hinckley, Leics. Extended weekend (4 day) tutorials are also available (subject to demand). A Kevala video massage tutorial is also included in the course fees. You can also email the college or call Monday to Friday 8.30am-4.30pm.
