Herbal Advisor

A Diploma Course for Herbal Advisors.

I recently undertook and completed the Herbal Studies course which, during the time I was studying it, was upgraded from a Certificate to a Diploma, which greatly enhanced its value to my mind.

The course has been written by Jackie Day - a medical herbalist, naturopath and Fellow of the Guild of Naturopathic Iridologists - and contains a great amount of information written in a very accessible way. You do not necessarily need to have any other qualification to study this course, but it works very well with Nutritional Therapy because where there are weaknesses in Nutritional Therapy, herbs can fill them, and vice-versa - and, if you are really keen, the Iridology diploma course completes the ideal three as it helps to take the guesswork out of diagnosis by enabling you to pinpoint the source of a health problem and the organs or systems being affected by it.

The Herbal Studies course teaches you about the systems of the body, the best herbs for each, and how to create formulas to suit individual health problems. I found it very satisfying to be able to put together all my previous learning and create complete dietary, lifestyle and herbal recommendations, and also to have confidence that they would improve an individual's quality of life - Kim Blake

What is the aim of the Herbal Advisors course?

With the implementation of Statutory Regulation in 2006, in the UK titles such as ‘Herbalist’ will be legally protected; only individuals registered with the designated professional bodies will by law be entitled to use such titles. Several hundred hours of supervised clinical practice, along with in depth study of herbs and their effective and safe applications are needed before students are entitled to register.

The public interest in herbal medicine continues to gain momentum and practitioners of many therapies currently recommend, or would like to recommend, appropriate herbs for their clients. The likes of Echinacea (for immunity), St John’s Wort (for depression) and more recently Black cohosh (for menstrual problems) are well known but there are hundreds of others that work wonders on all organs and systems of the body.

The Kevala Centre’s Herbal Advisor course will introduce you to a vast number of herbs you may never have heard of. It will guide you through individual systems of the body, advising which herbs to recommend (in accordance with the supplier’s instructions) for specific ailments. The onus is on practitioners to give safe advice and the Kevala Centre’s course includes elements of safe practice. It will also count towards practitioner CPDs.

Whether your interest in herbs is to treat yourself, or your family, or you’d like to extend your knowledge as a practitioner enabling you to increase the scope of your therapeutic advice, the Kevala Centre’s Herbal Advisor course can give you the skills you need.
