Theory of Essential Oils
What is the aim of the course?
This course is aimed at people interested in essential oils for personal use
but who do not want to study to become a professional aromatherapist or study
massage techniques.
This syllabus takes you on a journey through the history and background of aromatherapy
and a wide range of Essential Oils, their properties and characteristics. You
will also have the opportunity to learn about the chemistry of oils, their contra-indications,
blending and synergy, as well as correct storage and maintenance.
The course encourages you to develop your own skills in preparing lotions and
blends for specific conditions as well as a range of uses and applications with
essential oils. You will also be shown Essential Oil Recipes and be taught how
to make your own toiletries and potions for personal use.
What does the Course cover?
The course is comprised of 3 modules and covers:
• A background of aromatherapy
• Essential Oils and methods of extraction, different methods of application
and uses (herbal teas, compresses, steam inhalation, room sprays...)
• Aromatherapy and stress.
• Chemistry of oils,
• Buying oils
• Looking at Essential Oils in depth
• Contra-indication, aftercare and precautions
• Carrier oil and the principles of blending
• useful terminology
• Pot pourri recipes and other things to make
• Studying oils in depth
• Learning to use oils in a variety of ways
• Oils for specific conditions.
• Making shampoo, skin creams and toiletries
• Tips for setting up in business.
What qualification does this give?
There is no formal qualification for this course but you will receive a Kevala
certificate to show that you have successfully completed the course once we
have marked your final module
